AI inherits the miracle of the Great Wall

Get3D partners with Intel to restore the Arrowbuckle through AI and 3D reconstruction technology.

The Great Wall is a cultural monument representing the history of the development of human civilization, but nowadays it is facing the risk of erosion by natural disasters and man-made damages, and the restoration work is imminent. The Arrowbuckle is the most thrilling, steep and primitive section of the Great Wall, spanning across the lofty mountains, and the preservation work is by no means an easy task.

In order to overcome this nearly impossible challenge, Get3D’s Technical Team cooperated with Intel to capture high-precision images of the Arrowbuckle from all angles and quickly analyze and process the high-resolution image data to provide reference data for the actual Great Wall restoration. High-precision 3D reconstruction

AI technology restoration of ancient buildings needs to be based on high-precision images. To achieve this, the team used drones to take aerial photos and precise imaging of the Great Wall as a whole and parts of the wall, and then quickly analysed and processed the data received by the back-end to generate a complete high-precision 3D model of the Great Wall image.

Artificial intelligence for breakage and defect detection

The team uses AI algorithms to identify parts of the Great Wall that need to be repaired on a 3D model of the wall, detecting damage and structural defects. Once the damaged parts of a section of the Great Wall are identified, the AI performs digital virtual repairs, generating 3D repair effects and brick wall textures on the damaged model, and providing measurements of damage such as cracks and collapses to guide the physical repairs.

Using AI and high-precision 3D reconstruction technology, the collected polymorphic data will be analyzed, processed and reconstructed in 3D to provide guidance for the repair and maintenance of the Great Wall, so that the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage can be carried out more accurately and more efficiently.
